5 Tips for Choosing the Best Location for Your Dog Photography Session
Here in Colorado we’re spoiled for choice when it comes to beautiful locations. From meadows blanketed in blooming mountain heather to dramatic windswept peaks rising from dense forestland, there’s something for everyone. So much so that it can feel a little overwhelming.
But not to worry! An important part of my job is finding locations that fit exactly what you’re looking for. Every session package includes a personalized location suggestions list tailored specifically to you and your dog. So what should you take into account when finding the perfect location? Here’s what I suggest you think about…
What to take into consideration when thinking about your photo shoot location:
1. Scenery
What kind of scenery inspires you?
Where do you and your dog feel most comfortable? At home? A local park? On the trail?
Are you new to Colorado and want that epic Rocky Mountain backdrop?
2. Season
Is there a certain season that really speaks to you?
Do you have a dog that would do better in one season than the other? (e.g. avoiding hot weather with brachycephalic or heavy coated breeds)
Do you have a season that you like to dress for? (e.g. cozy sweaters vs. breezy dresses?)
3. Accessibility
Do you want to hike to your location or would you prefer something that’s easy to get to from the parking lot?
How far are you willing to travel? (A little extra travel is often required for dramatic mountain views that are easily accessible.)
Do you or your dog have any physical concerns that should be taken into consideration?
4. Seclusion
How quiet do you want your location to be?
Is your dog comfortable with other people/kids/dogs around?
Would you be willing to get up for sunrise so we’re more likely to have the place all to ourselves?
5. Meaning
Is there a location that has a lot of meaning to you?
Is there a place that you and your dog routinely go together?
