Pet Photography FAQ
What if my dog has to be on-leash?
No problem! The majority of the dogs I work with need to be on-leash (either for safety reasons or following leash-laws). Whenever possible I’ll remove the leash when editing your photos.
My dog is shy/hates getting their photo taken. Can you work with that?
Absolutely! I’ve worked with a wide variety of temperaments and have developed techniques for working with dogs who need more space and/or time to settle in and warm up. If you have any concerns ahead of time please let me know and I’m happy to discuss them with you.
Do you photograph pets other than dogs?
Yes! Cats, horses, rabbits, birds or any other animals are always welcome!
Can I be in the photos?
Yes! I encourage you to be in at least a few photos with your pets.
Will you take photos of my kids/family?
Although I am primarily a pet photographer, you and your children are absolutely allowed to be in the photographs as well, including taking a family portrait. However, please keep in mind that your pet(s) will be the primary focus of your session.
What should I wear?
Figuring out what to wear can feel overwhelming when preparing for your session. Check out this handy what to wear guide I put together specifically for pet photography.
What if the weather is bad?
I do my best to avoid cancelling due to weather conditions and am prepared to work with almost anything. However, there are some scenarios in which taking photos is simply too uncomfortable (for both humans and pets), if not downright dangerous:
High Wind Warning
Winter Storm Warning (or other winter-related warnings)
Cold temperatures (anything approximately 32°F or below)
Wildfire smoke
A note about summer thunderstorms: these tend to be isolated and short-lived. As your session approaches I’ll be in touch if the weather forecast is looking unfavorable. I always strive to rebook your session as soon as possible.
Are the photos retouched?
Editing (color correction, toning and cropping) as well as retouching (removing blemishes, distracting background objects and some stray flyaway hairs) are done to every image presented in your proofing gallery. If requested, additional retouching beyond what’s initially presented can be completed on the images you select to download or purchase.
Can I post the photos on social media?
Yes! You are absolutely allowed to share your images on social media. Photographer credit is always greatly appreciated. :)
Do you offer gift certificates?
Yes! I offer both physical and digital pet photography gift certificates. Send me a message and I’ll walk you through the simple and quick process.
How far in advance do I need to book?
Typically a month in advance is sufficient. However, if you’re looking for a weekend date, especially during the popular fall months (roughly from mid-September to end of October), the earlier you can book the better.
How do I book?
Booking is simple: shoot me a quick message letting me know you’re interested and I’ll send you a link to the new client area with additional details. Full payment and signed contract are due at the time of your session.
