The Best of 2024 Colorado Pet Photography
What do a hairless Xoloitzcuintli, a wildflower covered Wyoming mountain range, and 83 dogs, 7 horses, and 2 cats have in common? They’re all part of one unforgettable year of pet photography, one filled with epic locations, incredible pets, and stories that just might inspire your next great adventure! Let’s dive into some of the most memorable moments from this wild and wonderful year.
Number of Pets Photographed: 83 Dogs, 7 Horses, and 2 Cats
Looking back, I’m blown away by the number of incredible animals I had the privilege of photographing. Each pet is a world of its own, with unique personalities and stories that make every session so rewarding. What I love most is that every shoot connects me with amazing people who trust me to document the bond they share with their furkids. I’m so grateful to have a job that allows me to be a part of such special relationships. Each one feels like an absolute gift to witness.
The Most Unusual Dog Breed Photographed: The Xoloitzcuintli
In 2024 I also had the opportunity to photograph a Xoloitzcuintli for the first time, and what a cool experience! If you’re not familiar with this rare breed, they originate from Mexico and are known for their nearly hairless appearance, often sporting just a little hair on their heads, paws, and tails.
Sophie, the Xolo I photographed, completely stole my heart. She was athletic, intelligent, and fiercely devoted to her person. Her big personality reminded me so much of the Ridgebacks I used to have, and was such a unexpected delight.
Traveling Dog Photographer: Arizona, Wyoming, and Telluride, Colorado
If you ask me, traveling for dog photography is the best kind of travel. Earlier in the year, I teamed up with my friend and fellow pet photographer Lindsay Baca from Portland, Oregon. We first met at a dog photography workshop in Iceland, hit it off, and have since started taking our own dog photography trips. This time, we headed to Arizona, where my personal highlight was photographing a stunning Borzoi during a hiking session in the red rocks of Sedona. It was out of this world. (Thank you Lindsay for making it happen!)
I also had the incredible opportunity to photograph a session in Wyoming's Snowy Range. It’s been a bucket-list location I’d been wanting to shoot at for years. As if that wasn’t amazing enough, my client traveled all the way from Arizona (where they were one of our models!), making the experience even more special. This area would be stunning for adventure sessions… just putting that out there. 😉
Closer to home, I photographed several sessions in Telluride during the fall. There’s just something magical about Colorado’s San Juan Mountains, especially when golden aspens blanket the hillsides. It’s hands down one of my favorite areas in Colorado.
Continuing Education: Learning from Alicja Zmysłowska & Charlotte Reeves
If you’ve been around awhile you might have noticed that investing in continuing education has always been incredibly important to me. Staying curious, evolving creatively, and learning from others are some of the most rewarding parts of my job. I’m all about offering my clients the very best experience and imagery possible. No matter how long I’ve been photographing dogs, there’s always something new to learn and refine. This year, I had the incredible opportunity to work one-on-one with two of the best in the industry: Alicja Zmysłowska and Charlotte Reeves of Unleashed Education.
A Heartfelt Thank You
If you made it this far you’re a real one! I’m absolutely overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible clients who trusted me to capture their beloved pets. Here’s to even more inspiring journeys, heartwarming stories, and new friendships in the year ahead. Thank you for being part of this beautiful journey! 🧡
