I hate to admit it, but photography has kind of turned me into a bit of gearhead. So you can image how excited I was when I received my new 50 mm f/1.8 lens a couple of days ago. Naturally, I’ve been running around shooting everything with as wide open f-stop as possible. Love how it handles indoors.

Much to Kip and Tilda’s chagrin a squirrel has decided to move into the tree right outside our back door.  He’s a cheeky little bastard who likes to sit on one of the lower branches and taunt the dogs while they are trapped inside.  As soon I as let them out they try to exact their revenge, but despite their best efforts they haven’t quite figured out just how to climb a tree.

Last weekend Ville and I decided to hike up to Lake Dorothy and the Continental Divide via Arapaho Pass. Despite getting altitude sickness and possibly killing a few brain cells in the process, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

This weekend I had the opportunity to shoot half-siblings, Brady and Fenway. You would be hard pressed to find two more well behaved and sweet boys. Here’s a little peek:

And a little behind the scenes action. Fenway doing his best to keep Tilda entertained.

Tilda and I are about to hit the road, Omaha bound for a long weekend of dog sports, socializing and drinks. In fact, I’m pretty sure I’m going to need a few after surviving our first agility run ever. Oh, who I am kidding? I’ll need a few before.

Kip, on the other hand, is not too thrilled about having to sit this one out. “Stay here and guard the house,” as my dad would say.

The lovely and enigmatic Beans.

It seems like nearly every afternoon we’ve had thunderstorms come through. Taking advantage of the break in the weather, I let Tilda out and was hoping to get some action shots. Apparently she had other ideas, preferring to keep her nose buried in all the interesting scents that the rain left behind.

Happy Birthday Kip! A special party hat was constructed in his honor. Thankfully, after seven years with us he’s learned to tolerate our creative shenanigans.

For some reason writing the introduction to this set of images has been a bit of a struggle. I think it’s because there’s so much I could say but don’t know where to start. So, I wanted to cop-out and try to find a travel quote, but everything I read didn’t quite fit. After much lamenting I realized that, for me, going to Finland isn’t like “traveling” at all, it’s more like going home.

uh oh, fifteen minutes to judge wapner04.02.10

I’m just going to say it: I’m pretty sure Tilda is the Rain Man of Ridgebacks. She is a fantastically brilliant dog when it comes to training and honestly so much so that it can be a little unnerving at times. She has this freaky ability to learn almost anything– I mean she can read for christ’s sake! Alright, so she’s not curling up in front of the fireplace with Dickens and some popcorn, but I’d say “sit” and “down” are a good start.  With all this brainpower you’d think life would be daisies, but unfortunately that’s not always the case. God forbid something novel in Tilda’s environment pops up like oh, I don’t know, let’s say a demonic head of lettuce that decides to magically appear on a counter. Then all hell breaks loose.

The perpetrator

Tilda retreats to the safety of the kitchen table in order to give the killer lettuce a proper stink eye.

Ten minutes later after much dodging like a butterfly and stinging like a bee–crisis adverted. Lettuce threat neutralized.
